Mick writes music for a variety of ensembles. As well as writing jazz compositions for his band, he has written several pieces for big band which are regularly performed by the London Jazz Orchestra. Through composed pieces include a saxophone quartet written for Quartz, a brass quintet "Hamlet Stories" written for Onyx Brass, and a piece for large brass ensemble, "The London Scene" comissioned by the Docklands Sinfonia. Mick has recently recorded his piece for alto saxophone and piano, "October Dances" on the CD of the same name. Mick's music has been performed in many countries, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

In 2007, "Dangerous Tango", reached the final of the 2007 Uitburo Big Band Composition Competition in Enschede, Holland.
